Originally from Jinan, in Shandong province, and active between Beijing and Shanghai, he is one of the masters of contemporary Chinese painting. After training at the Central Chinese Academy of Fine Arts and completing his studies at Shandong University, where he now teaches, he has exhibited his works worldwide, with solo and group shows in major cities such as Berlin, Paris, Miami, London, and Bangkok. Since 1996, his work has been featured in China’s leading national museums. His artistic career, initially marked by existential realism, has matured into a personal form of Chinese Pop Art—playful and luminous—that stands apart from the more critical tone of the 1990s. His subjects—from “Super Mao” to the “Fish Girl” series—embody an optimistic and ironic spirit, symbolizing a modern China in transformation. He has participated in fairs and biennials including Art Paris, ArtVerona, Sabbioneta Biennale, Venice Biennale (San Marino Pavilion and Palazzo Bollani), Jinan International Biennale, as well as exhibitions in institutions such as the Coral Springs Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art of San Marino. His art, iconic and widely popular, conveys energy, color, and confidence in the future, reflecting the identity and well-being of a new China.
